After two weeks of MPSSAA postseason play, there was almost no change in the ranking order of the Media State Poll.
However, that's not to say there were no significant results.
Archbishop Spalding wrapped up a third straight MIAA A Conference title with a 31-7 victory over McDonogh in a Top 10 showdown on Saturday. Spalding finishes the year at 12-0, and considering the Cavaliers received every single No. 1 vote this week, it stands to reason Spalding will end the year at No. 1 when the final poll is released after the public school playoffs are decided.
Teams ranked 1-23 before the postseason started are all ranked this week, although a few teams flip-flopped positions. Good Counsel moved ahead of McDonogh for No. 7, Broadneck edged out Milford Mill Academy for No. 16 and Northwest inched up to No. 21 ahead of Flowers.
Postseason losses by former No. 24 Oakdale and No. 25 Eleanor Roosevelt dropped those teams from the rankings. Sherwood returns to the Top 25 this week at No. 24. North Point, a preseason Top 20 team, is back in the rankings at No. 25.
While Spalding is the unanimous No. 1, St. Frances Academy remains No. 2 with DeMatha, Riverdale Baptist and Quince Orchard rounding out the Top 5. DeMatha clashes with No. 7 Good Counsel this week for the WCAC Capital championship.
The ranked public schools compete in the state quarterfinal round this week, which features showdowns between No. 16 Broadneck and No. 21 Northwest, a rematch from last year's state tournament, and No. 20 Paint Branch against No. 22 Flowers.
