Patuxent, Good Counsel move up in state rankings following key victories

No. 24 Patuxent upended No. 18 Huntingtown 26-20 with a touchdown pass on the last play of the game.

Aside from that result, the rest of last week's Top 25 teams secured wins, leading to minimal changes in this week's rankings.

Archbishop Spalding remains the undisputed No. 1 after a dominant 51-0 win over Gilman, while St. Frances Academy holds steady at No. 2 after beating St. Thomas More (Conn.). The only notable shift in the Top 10 saw Good Counsel move up to No. 5, overtaking Quince Orchard, following a decisive 48-10 victory over Stone Bridge (Va.). Quince Orchard, which had beaten Stone Bridge a week earlier by a narrower 10-0 margin, slipped to No. 6.

Patuxent's victory propelled them to No. 20, while Huntingtown dropped to No. 23.

Consensus was strong among voters this week, as only 27 teams received votes, leaving the Top 25 largely unchanged.

Looking ahead, there are no matchups between ranked teams, making all 20 ranked squads in action this week favorites to win.
